Two of my papers have been cited by people I don't even know. (Previous citations were from people who were somehow involved in the research. So they don't count.)
Wow. Your field must be a lot smaller than mine. Most of my citations are from people I don't know. People I do know don't always cite me, even when they should, but there's no point in calling attention to that after that fact when I see them at meetings. It's very strange.
I'm recently tenured associate professor at a state university (a university formerly referred to as R1, before that designation offically disappeared); I have a teaching & research appointment in a technical discipline. I'm married to a super guy who uprooted himself to move with me for this job, for which I am very lucky and grateful. We have a cute little toddler, for whom I am also very grateful.
